*sigh* part2

posted by dootdoo on Tue Apr 11, 2006 8:09 pm

Its came to my attention that some people don't seem to get the spirit in which my previous request was made. In an attempt to clarify my stance let me try again.

I asked that site operators hot link to our trainers, rather then leech and post - the reasons for this request are
1) I can keep tabs on the stats
2) I know that its always the latest version of the trainer.

This is a request - some examples that we've all heard in our youth that were requests are:

'could you please take out the garbage'
    'would you please be quiet'
    'please turn down that music'

And just as it was when you were a kid and someone said one of these things to you, you have two options. You can comply with it, and everyone is happy - or you can be a brat and ignore the request. Thats all.

I went on to say, that if you can't abide by our teams wishes, then don't expect support. Which is pretty similar to what you'd end up having happen if you were a kid in the above examples.

So, theres no need to call lawyers, or to tell me that according to law blah blah blah. Thats not the point here, I'm not saying you can or can't do, whats ethical or not ethical. I'm saying if you (as a site operator) can't help make our teams job easier, then shame on you, and that I'm not going to actively support your forum/message board/gay porn site's members needs.

All I see coming out of this is good, have I overlooked something? I'm sure plenty of you visit other places for xbox trainer discussion, or to make requests, or to just say 'thanks' - do you see why this would be a problem? You'd like to be able to go to whichever of the main 4 xbox trainer related sites (xbox-scene, northfence, maxconsole, xboxtrainers) and expect that you get a response from Evox-T about a problem with our trainers, or that at least that one of our team had read and relayed what you posted right?

I know that I've personally bent over backwards to try and help as many people I can by either writing trainers, helping them write trainers, writing tutorials about trainers, etc. And what I ask for in return is 1) dont alter the nfo file 2) please hotlink. Doesn't sound like a lot to me. If anyone wants me to elaborate on any portion of this, I'd be happy to.

I'm human, and I make mistakes, and make the wrong judgement calls sometimes. So I ask you, am I out of line? Please post a comment weighing in on this (pro or against - I just want input).

Update 1:
I don't expect this to be retroactive, I am just talking about future trainers. So if you just learned of the policy, in the future please hotlink if you would like us to monitor your forums for feature requests/bug reports. LepPper of http://www.craxtion.com/ went ahead and adjusted their whole archive - Thanks man Smile
Also, since I havn't spoke to northfence personally on this issue to have him weigh in on it I will continue to monitor there for problems.

Edited Apr 20th 5:47est: Fixed a stray '/List' tag, and I added Update 1.

I really hate to do this, but I'd like to ask all of you to read the following:

We as a team spend a lot of time trying to bring you trainers as quickly as possible, on some days I spend my entire waking day working on trainers for YOU. After the last 'repacking' debacle we here at xboxtrainers.net expanded our site to better serve you, the trainer enthusiest. We dont do this to sell mod chips, we don't do this to make money, we do this for recognition. Pure and simple. We spend time making trainers so that you guys and gals out their can enjoy your games more, and I think we've been doing a pretty damn good job. Unfortunately, this is where the problems begin.

In order to determine which games and types of games we should focus our energy on I need to know what will be popular. I have a REAL hard time keeping track of the popularity of a trainer - I only get the stats from our site. Being that there are at least 3 other places that you can grab the trainer (after its downloaded from here) that ends up as a lot of bouncing around just to count how many times its been downloaded. I've been making a strong effort to do that, but its further complicated by the fact that on some of these places the updates replace the original release (and its stats), so then I only have stats on how many people downloaded the updated version - and without the original data to compare that against, I dont even know how many people out their still have the original (possibly buggy) version.

On top of that, theres numerous other 'issues' that seem to crop up when people leech and then redistribute, these include repacks (including edited nfos (Numerous Incidents)), and sometimes with ads added (Yes I'm talking about you Darth Soth - stop that shit), old buggy versions being posted on repositories (and the updates never make it there), Etc.

IF, you want to distribute our trainers, then YAY. I want these to be available to anyone thats wants them. So feel free to hotlink to your hearts content.

Now on to some good news.
I'm still working on my backend script to auto post new releases to northfence.com, and to xbins (shame I dont get stats from xbins, but at least I can be sure that I've removed broken versions and replaced them with good ones)

This should NOT effect the renaming project, or even the collection projects - if you want to arrange/organize our trainers in a more useful way, I'm all for it - just please give credit when it is due. BTW, I'm a big fan of that pack that renamed all the trainers AND included the nfos (renamed) - because the inclussion of full nfo files cuts down on the number of questions I have to answer every day, and there is no way someone could confuse a package of trainers with the original/official version (like what happens when someone repacks our zips as rars, people think they are official, and it causes me nothing but headaches)

Anyone else find this funny and retarded...

posted by khuong on Mon Apr 10, 2006 6:11 pm

Well, most of you know that MaxConsole and us havn't been getting along in the past few months, things were going great for a while.. but then things started to get retarded again, and we were given some pretty "rofl" reasons for it happening, but I'm pretty much at the end of my whits with it.. so basically.. we are no longer going to look at MaxConsole forums, for bug reports or anything else. It's a pity really, since it's where I started and stuff, but meh I'm fed up, and so are a few others that are close with us.

If your curious to see what the latest thing that got me upset was..

I posted a reply to our Tomb Raider post on MXC with

Quote:
"Trainer has been updated -- with bug fix and inf grenades so wait till its posted here or ya.. you know"

It was deleted not to shortly after Smile so... ya then I was contacted by Mike.. with

Quote:
"need yout o do me a favor
you have your website and i think it is nice
but dont use our web site to announce
your trainer releases
either post them properly
or we will do it
but dont use our site as announce
thanks for understanding
appreciate it
so anyway
hope all is well with you
take care
byes"

So as you can tell, this has been going on for quite some time... our nfo's not being posted as most posts have been, etc etc, and it seems to be only towards Evox-T so I'm taking it quite personal. Sorry to see things turn out this way, but we're fed up.

Site updates are coming...

posted by khuong on Sun Apr 02, 2006 10:57 pm

Alright guys, it seems like I'll have some free time soon, so expect a bunch of changes to site..

    - Search function (to search for trainers)
    - New index page for trainers
    - Trainer stats
    - Date / Name / Download sorting for trainers (your choice)
    - Mailing list for trainer's
    - Request system will be added/implemented
    - Source code forum's will be open (we will be releasing sources to certain trainers)
    - Tutorials (from both me and doot on various things) ** If time permits
Don't know exactly when they will be added, and I'm unsure if they'll be added one by one or all at once, either way, they will be coming soon. So be on the look out, thanks again for the positive feed back.

Redid the browse/recent trainer pages, added new listing/sorting options. Search to come soon and maybe date/dl sort and other nifty things.
